rust problem

Postby bedford banger » 16 Jul 2012, 14:39

Hi,

I recently brought a weber and stupidly hung my pair of tongs on the handle resulting in it taking a layer of paint off and now its started to get a bit of surface rust. is there anything i can do to get rid if it?

Thanks

Jim

Option 1 -
Sand it down to get rid of the rust, then buy some high heat enamel paint and touch up - Its expensive and pretty nasty, but once it sets you wont have a problem.

Option 2 -
Sand off the rust then just oil the area with veg oil or spray oil, this will prevent it from rusting.

Option 3 -
Sand it down and try get hold of this - http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=108. I dont know how effective it is but the US forums talk about it on occasion.

You can buy Rustoleum in B&Q, I used two cans to spray my UDS, bit expensive at £8 a can but I've never had a single rust spot come through, just make sure you follow the directions and 'warm cure' it properly and not just dry it like standard paint, it's probably your best bet IMHO.
