An old one ...Bananas on BBQ

Hiya,

I've got a sweet tooth!

This is an old one but a good one, you've probably heard of it before anyway...

When the charcoal is dying down get a banana and slice it length ways, not all the way through.
Lay the banana in tin foil (enough to wrap it up later)
Get some Malteasers and place them in the banana pushing them into the slice, along the full length.
Any gaps can be filled with chocolate buttons. :P
Wrap the banana up in the tin foil, tightly, place in the coals or on the grate for about 15mins or so depending on temperature.
When ready open up the tin foil and check to see if the malteasers have melted. If so its ready.
I pour some cream over them and tuck in, the malteasers go all chewy and caramel like. mmm just delicious!

I usually add some baileys or amaretto into it as well.

Top food.

But please, please, please, let's aspire to something beyond buttons.

There's some world class chocolate out there we can use, without resorting to the confectionary equivalent of Ben Shaw's Shandy Flavoured Drink in place of a quality real ale.

Steve I have to agree in general, but a good chocolate may well overpower the "delicate" flavour of the nana so for some uses buttons is best :D
I slice the bananas and intersperse the slices with slices of fun size Mars Bars, a sprinkle of dark rum 8-)

I never understood how something smaller could be considered more "fun" than an actual size chocolate bar!

Have to agree, surely bigger is more fun (especially in confectionary & bbq portions)

Why not get a giant sized Mars bar slice it and insert a banana :?

I certainly agree that some dark chocolate would be too overpowering - good point, well made.

But I still think chocolate buttons are a step too far the other way.

If I may refer to the beer analogy again, if Theakstons Old Peculier is too overpowering, use Theakstons XB or Theakstons Best Bitter, not shandy.

Having said that, I lover bananas done this way, and if you brought me one now made with buttons, I'd scoff it.
