Don't think the kid would retain enough heat and also probable to far away to have much of an effect. Worth a go though

I saw this and thought it was a great idea, putting a basket of coals on top of the grate... http://www.grilling24x7.com/stone.shtml

Has anybody tried this or has anybody got a working method? About to buy a weber stone at £30/40 but want to make sure it will work well on my 57" weber kettle, thanks.

That's how I did it last time I made BBQ pizza. I've got a cheapo pizza stone (from Homebase Autumn sales) - it doesn't cover all of the 22" grill so there's space for a charcoal basket on there as well. It worked well for me. I got 400-500F on lid thermometer (don't have IR therm - yet) and since bottom coals are offset, the stone hasnt cracked.

Thanks for this fish, ill probably buy the stone and a couple of baskets.
