Anyone had a leaky lid on their DB?
Is it worth getting nomex seals?

I want to try some profiles out for different things.

The way I'd like to try is that given most of the smoke flavour is absorbed at the beginning of cooking, keep the temp low on the DB so it produces most smoke. Then possibly raise the temp a little higher (110-115) until the temp at which a pork joint stalls. The next temperature change should take place once the stall has completed, just to slightly speed up the process to completion so trigger the raise in temperature based on meat's core temp.

I may go and do a little more research before trying this out.

There is a pulled pork profile already.
Have you tried it?

Yes, my lid has always leaked. I got some some Nomex from here: https://wishboxusa.co.uk/products/high- ... 0wodz94H5Q

I put it on the other week but haven't tested yet so can't say if it makes much difference. The lid does now close with a rather satisfying muffled thump.

Used my DB a couple of times now and noticed that on the app the grill temp never seems to change from the setpoint value.
However, my maverick tells me otherwise. The temp readings are pretty close, about 4 or 5 f difference.

Anyone else have this? I assume the grill temp is the live reading from the grill probe?

I believe the app checks in less frequently than the beast checks itself, so if you are watching the beast you will see it overshoot by a couple of degrees and then go into breathe mode then it will drop a couple of degs under before it brings it back up again. Because the app checks less frequently it tends to just show the set point, not sure it matters that much......

Cheers

Hi All,

I've just finished a long cook on the DB and was about to cover it up. I checked all around the body to make sure it was cool enough. I don't normally check underneath but thought I would just in case. To my shock I found flakes of paint in my hand!

I then crawled underneath to look and found this:

I don't know if this has been like it a while or just after this long cook.

It's only on one side which is weird.

So, my question is, has anyone else had or heard of this?

I wouldn't have even known had I not checked the temp. The rest of the bodywork seems fine. I've not checked the inside yet as it started to spit so I covered up quick.

Needless to say I'm a bit gutted, I've only used it 4 or 5 times!
