Problem with Maverick ET73 Meat Thermometer

Postby zzubnik » 21 May 2014, 09:47

Hi all,

I purchased the Maverick ET73 on the advice of members here, and I've got a problem; the temperature seems to be wildly out when I use it.

The digital probe was on the provided clip, on the metal grill, near the meat.

Now I don't know what to believe. Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Nik

Test the probe by putting it into some rolling-boiling water - that should show 100C/212F (or roughly that depending on your altitude).

As Aris says, test the Maverick.
My Weber gauge is about 50F adrift (on the low side).
Which thinking about it is the same as that.

I'd put my money on the Weber being out. Once you have tested the maverick, just use that for your temps.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

The reason I suspected the new thermometer was because my Weber digital probe reports pretty much the same as the smoker dial reads.

I will do the boiling water test tonight with all three (two probes on the Maverick, and the Weber Digital). Perhaps that will expose the truth.

Thanks again.
