I am absolutely certain the KJ is the product I need. I hope it will a couple decades with careful use and storage - Toby would you agree it is well made enough for this?

Looks I selected the right items from the outset which is encouraging.

I am think of buying 100 x 5kg charcoal bags. A pallet, for 375 GBP, Liverpool something or other. Is this stuff good enough and the best value out there?

Cheers

James

I assume you mean this co http://www.liverpoolwoodpellets.co.uk/ourshop/cat_624185-Lumpwood-Charcoal.html. I have tried the charcoal, which is fine for grilling, but I agree with Simon it didnt match the Restaurant grade 15kg from BigK or their box's of restaurant grade stuff. All very good. I second the ET732, however, since moving to a KJ I have stopped using it when compared to a WSM where I hardly get any massive deviation in the temp.

I love my KJ which I bought last Sept!

Thanks Simon and Fanatic. I will look at Big K, I hope they do bulk deliveries to the frozen north.

Based on a bit more knowledge and what Simon referred to, do you guys think the Pitmaster IQ is actually required with the KJ.

Decent charcoal and maverick ET732 enough for the likes of pulled pork and other low and slow items?

Being honest waterproofing the IQ and running cables seems a lot of work, especially as I cooking in all weather states.

So what do you reckon - ditch the Pitmaster IQ?

Many thanks

You don't need the IQ. But for long cooks or times when the weather is windy it is brilliant at keeping stable low temperatures. I typically only use it when cooking overnight or if I am going to go out & leave the KJ running.

With respect to weather proofing it, I spent all of a few pounds on a plastic crate & a bit of pipe which sits next to the KJ and houses both the extension lead & IQ unit.

Cheers,

Simon

Pitmaster IQ has been removed from the shipping list!

Maverick ET733 has been added.

Horrified to see the price of the PT100 probe! Why is it so more expensive than other ones....?

All probes seem to be expensive and weak, I have a maverick graveyard due to the probes failing so quickly (to be honest I have the same with most brands)

So it is probably prudent to go down the chinese clone eBay route?

For the probes? It's just the way they are used that makes them .... Fragile?? and not all probes will work in all devices so I would be wary.

Just spoke to pitmasteriq and they have a shortage of probes at the moment so our next shipment of 120's wont be for about 3 weeks. Just FYI
