Kamado Joe 23" & Pitmaster IQ 120

Postby uncle albert » 03 Apr 2014, 22:12

Hello Gents

I will shortly be looking to buy the KJ plus accessories like grill extender, pizza stone Deflector plate plus other bits and bobs.

I am also looking for the IQ 120. I have looked at the American website and it is going to be expensive by the time all the customs fees and charges are added on. Is there anybody here can tell me where to find them in the UK?

Likewise for the KJ.?? I have seen 699 on one website, but no accessories...

Many thanks

Could try these guys: http://www.outdoorgourmet.co.uk

They stock KJ and I was talking to them about buying a bundle at the end of last year (went for an Excel from Macs in the end as it was over a grand cheaper in the end!).

Is there any manufacturer who makes a waterproof and battery powered product like the Pitmaster IQ?

GUY - How does the Excel perform compared to a Kamado? Is it less thermally efficency?

No one making them in the uk, there are more powerful alternatives like the guru but the pitmasters prove reliable.

You can't really compare the proq and kamado. The KJ is an insulated ceramic and the pro q is thin steel so fuel effecientcy etc are wildly different

I've not used a Kamado; I was persuaded to go down the Excel route and have been very pleased with it - that said I feel given the amount of food I cook at each sitting (only really fill one shelf) and the fuel needed for cook (whole 4kg bag of heat beads) a Kamado would be significantly more efficient. Also more versatile - or at least more 'easily' versatile; it does feel quite clumsy trying to do direct on the Excel...

I do have a sneaking suspicion there will be a KJ in my garden (and the Excel in the shed for big parties) within a year! ;-)

Thanks guys.

I am absolutely certain the KJ is the product I need. I hope it will a couple decades with careful use and storage - Toby would you agree it is well made enough for this?

Looks I selected the right items from the outset which is encouraging.

I am think of buying 100 x 5kg charcoal bags. A pallet, for 375 GBP, Liverpool something or other. Is this stuff good enough and the best value out there?

Looking forward to getting your quote Toby. The house won't be sorted for a good three months so absolutely no rush to buy. Just planning and preparing ahead

Cheers

James

Kamado Joe 23" & Pitmaster IQ 120

If you are going to low n slow, I'd get a remote thermometer also - lots of people use the maverick et732 or similar.

Re charcoal - have a look at Big K - I use this with my KJ and order half a pallet of ACH15 a couple of times a year. It is the best charcoal I have tried so far in terms of ability to hit high temps for pizza and steak, but also gives great long burns. I easily get 24 hour burns with it even without using the IQ110 that I have.

Cheers,

Simon
