Hi
I'm getting a pork shoulder on this weekend but it's a bit smaller than I'm used to cooking so wanted your opinion on grilling time.
How long do you think it'll take to get a 1.8kg piece up to around 90 degrees (C that is)?
I'm planning on using the snake method though may switch to minion if ...

Re: This year's weber briquettes
I'll give them a couple more chances, otherwise it's heat beads for me.
Are there any other briquettes available that don't kick out that acrid smoke that taints the food? Whether I get cheap ones or not all the others seem to have the same problem.

This year's weber briquettes
Hi
Has anyone tried the latest weber briquettes that are now available in the DIY shops?
Something just isn't the same. They light a lot quicker and quite worryingly seem to burn quicker too. Also the distinctive yellow ash they produced is now white.
Just wondered if anyone else had noticed any ...

Re: Winter charcoal briquette supplier
Hi Tiny I'm in Baffins.
Still no joy sourcing any decent briquettes locally, I'll have to slum it with lump wood for now.
If anyone can recommend a good stable indirect method that doesn't involve briquettes then I'm all ears. I normally use the snake but I don't trust it with lump.

Winter charcoal briquette supplier
Hi
As above, with the winter months upon us, where do you source your briquettes from when it disappears off the shelves to make room for Christmas tat?
I know I can get the cheaper briquettes from the garage forecourt but I prefer the premium brands like Weber and heat beads which I find don't ...

Re: Snake method
Just a weber kettle, all vents fully open.
The last couple of snakes I did were on cold days with some occasional light rain (almost unheard of in Britain I know) and I think that might have contributed to the problem.
I'm currently running at 115 degrees (c) with a 5 deep layer of Penbead ...

Re: Snake method
Usually Weber or heat beads, which are pretty small briquettes I grant you. Trying Penbead out today to see if that makes a difference.

Snake method
Hi
Just wanted people's opinions on using the snake method.
I've found it very effective for cooks of 6 hours or more as long as you use a good smokeless briquette however the prescribed method of building the snake 4 briquettes deep never gets the grill hot enough for me.
Maybe it's because it ...

Re: Got me a Maverick!
That's actually a lot cheaper than I expected.Buy them direct, reasonably priced shipping as well. http://www.maverickhousewares.com/parts/
For anyone interested, one of each probe works out at $33 plus $10 shipping from the USA, which is about £28.

Re: Got me a Maverick!
Do you mean something like these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171772002846
They look the part, but do I dare drill a hole in my precious kettle?
We'll see.
