Re: Cooking pulled pork

My usual pork smoking goes as follows:

1. Fire up the smoker.
2. Rub the meat while the smoker gets warmed up.
3. Add the meat to the grill, with a probe thermometer.
4. When the meat gets to about 75°C internal (or when it seems to have stopped climbing) foil it.
5. Leave until the internal temp ...

Re: New to gas & lava rocks... Looking for advice please :)

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I have a very cheap gas BBQ with lava rocks and I find that I need to either keep the food on the grill turning very quickly, or move it to the upper shelf and close the lid.

Even on the lowest setting the rocks retain a lot of heat and can burn if you leave the ...

Re: Supagrill Briquettes!!!

What do you guys think? Anyone had good/bad/indifferent experiences with supagrill briquettes??

Had them before my current bag of Weber briqs and thought they were great. Found them at a Tesco filling station recently at £5 for 5kg so stocked up with a couple for when the Webers run out ...

Re: Cheap chimney starter - £3

If you have the Tesco one I am very surprised as both the home base & b&q cheapies do.

I can't say much more than what I've experienced directly. It's a long length of metal between the chimney and handle so I guess there's plenty of room for the heat to dissipate to atmosphere. Also the heat ...

Re: Keen bbq'er, novice to 'low and slow' smoking

Thats good advice, ive also drilled some holes in the fire pan as I saw advised, I need to look in to sealing it up next

I did that too, started with a few small holes (figuring it's easier to add more/bigger holes if needed) but it didn't seem to make a vast difference on the last cook. Will add ...

Re: Keen bbq'er, novice to 'low and slow' smoking

It is the same smoker as yours whuch I have bought but when I fired it up with the (saved) pork shoulder skin and fat I couldn't get any heat out of it. I could touch the lid and the top section without real discomfort, and the temp guage never got much past 70'c.

From experience:

1. Don't use ...

Others, perhaps, this one has been fine for me. Construction is solid and it has a heat shield for the wooden handle.

Re: Weber long burn briquettes. ..

I've used them, very good briqs that burn for a decent time (240 minutes is probably pushing it) and keep temps stable.

Re: Give me shelter

Nice job. I was going to build a small roof to protect my smoker, but the wood was going to cost more than the BBQ equipment! Settled on putting it in the shed to keep it dry.
